Funeral services for Phyllis J. Olsen, will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery on Friday, November 2, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
Phyllis Jean Henriksen was born October 10, 1932, in Audubon County, the daughter of Clarence A. and Martha K. (Haahr Jensen) Henriksen and passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.
She grew up in Audubon County, graduating from Audubon High School. She also attended Dana College in Blair, Nebr., for one year. On Aug. 31, 1952, she was married to G. Wayne Olsen at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Phyllis devoted her time to her children, her husband, and her home.
Phyllis grew up as a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. She was active in church circles and raising funds for cancer drives. Phyllis enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking for her family, socializing with the Cloverleaf Club and her card club.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Martha Henriksen; her sister-in-law, Ruth Henriksen; and her brother-in-law, Lyle Hash.
She is survived by her husband, G. Wayne Olsen of Atlantic; her four children and 11 grandchildren: Steve (Laura) Olsen of Marne, with Emily Olsen, Chris (Lindsey), Dan, Tim, and Nick Olsen; Gary (Linda) Olsen of Atlantic with Chad Olsen; Carol (Todd) Swenson of Bloomington, Minn., with Anna, Sarah, and Erik Swenson; and Keith (Barb) Olsen of Atlantic with Jared and Jonathan Olsen; her brothers, Norman (Dorothy) Henriksen of Atlantic and Dale Henriksen of Audubon; her sisters Ardyth (Marvin) Laursen of Muscatine, and Marilyn Hash of Brigham City, Utah; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic or Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.
