A private family service for Richard "Dick" Nelsen, 75, was held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. A private burial was in the Cozad, Nebraska Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad, Neb. was in charge of arrangements.

Dick was born Feb. 23, 1936 at Marshalltown, to Frederick and Thusnelda "Tess" (Matzner) Nelsen and passed away March 11, 2011 at the Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad, Neb.
Dick graduated from Exira High School in 1954. He went on to attend the University of Iowa where he completed his undergraduate education in 1958.
On June 13, 1959, Dick married Mary Jo "Tina" Thielen at Exira. Dick earned his Doctorate in Jurisprudence at the University of Iowa in 1961. He went on to work at Banker's Life Company in Des Moines. Their union was blessed with three children, Greg, Eric and Jill. In 1964, the family moved to Cozad. In 1974, Dick went into partnership with his brother, Bruce to form Nelsen & Nelsen, PC; a law firm that the two owned and operated until the present.
Dick loved all sports and was an avid reader. He loved animals, particularly dogs. Dick and Tina loved to travel together, and they were fortunate enough to do so frequently. He also enjoyed cooking and spending time out at their cabin at Midway Lake. Above most everything else, he enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Karma.
Dick is lovingly survived by his wife of over 51 years, Mary Jo "Tina" Nelsen of Cozad; two sons, Greg (Mary) Nelsen of Callaway, Neb., Eric Nelsen of Arnold, Neb.; daughter, Jill (Scott) Breon of Cozad; brother, Bruce Nelsen of Cozad; sister, Liz (Ron) Johnson of Rapid City, S.D.; brother-in-law, Tom (Evelyn) Thielen of Ames; 11 grandchildren, Jake (Stephanie), Casey, Dalton, Tara, Nichole, Nathan (Kaylee) and Jaiden Nelsen, Ian and Taylor Schmeeckle, Luke and Nathan Breon; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
