Roma Anne Murray, the daughter of Carl G.F. and Mabel (Madsen) Petersen, was born July 8, 1934, at her parents' home in Audubon, and died March 10, 2015, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 2 days.
Roma was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1952.
On Feb. 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Merlon "Snooker" Dean Murray at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon. One daughter, Tina, was born to this union. They moved to Oklahoma where they lived while Merlon finished his tour of duty with the U.S. Army. They returned to Iowa and settled in Gray, where they lived for several years before moving their house to Audubon. Roma was employed as a waitress at the T-Bone Club in Audubon for several years. She then was the bookkeeper for Murray Lime and Rock. Later Merlon started his own business and Roma continued as the bookkeeper for "Snooker" Murray Rock Service. Roma again was the bookkeeper for Murray Trucking, which was owned by her nephew Craig Murray, until she retired. Roma and Merlon enjoyed traveling around the United States and finding good places to fish. Merlon died on Oct. 9, 1991. Roma then spent much of her time with her best friend Pat Hansen. They enjoyed traveling, gambling, and finding new places to eat. Roma lived in her own home until she moved to the Friendship Home in 2012.
Roma was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon. She enjoyed caring for her lawn, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed having coffee with and entertaining her friends. But most important to her was her grandchildren and she loved being involved in all their activities.
