Ross Victor Lange, 90, of Chariton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.
Ross was born on July 23, 1922 in Shelby County, the only child of Mads and Freda (Petersen) Lange. He graduated from the Audubon High School in 1939. After high school Ross worked with his father on the farm and helped run the family seed corn business (Lange Hybrids) in Shelby County.
On Feb. 25, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dorothy (Petersen) in Atlantic. To this union four children were born, Linda Paulette, Donald Eugene, Randall Lee and Scott Brian. Ross and Dorothy moved to Ft. Dodge where he worked several years as a sales man for Gus Glaser Meat Company. The family later moved to Clarke County where Ross farmed and also sold Harvestor silos and Purina Feeds. The family then relocated to a farm in Adair County near Greenfield. Later in life, they left the farm, moving to Des Moines where he sold real estate.
After semi-retirement, Ross and Dorothy moved to the Mt. Pleasant area where he continued to work until his eightieth birthday. Ross enjoyed visiting with people and being outdoors. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He had a true love for horses and always had a dog by his side.
Ross was baptized as an infant and was a current member of the First Augustana Lutheran Church ELCA in Lockridge,.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Chariton, one daughter, Linda Schilling and her husband Dr. Tom Schilling of Corydon, three sons, Donald Lange and his wife, Marcia of Osceola, Randall Lange of St. Charles, and Scott Lange and his wife, Sandra of Mt. Pleasant, six grandchildren, Eric Lange and wife Kris of Osceola, Erin Berentschot and husband Chad of Inwood, Kyle Lange and wife Jessica of Osceola, Todd Schilling and wife Crystal of Hampshire, Ill., Justin Lange and wife Chasity of Mt. Pleasant and Crystal Even and husband Dr. John Even of West Des Moines, thirteen great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law, JoAnn Petersen of Manning.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Ivan Petersen.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church, 1004 Curtis Ave, Chariton, with Pastor Rich Gates officiating. Family will greet friends and family at a luncheon following the service. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, at a later date.
