Sister Lourita, 97, died peacefully at Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, on Sept. 7, 2014 after having served for almost 79 years as a Sister of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration.

Rita Clare was born to Shompier and Anna (Lorentz) Bintner on Nov. 19, 1917 in Exira,. Sister Lourita is survived by her Franciscan Family and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters, two of whom were also members of the Sisters of Saint Francis, Sister Anna Louise and Sister Elaine.
Sister Lourita entered Saint Elizabeth Convent in Lafayette, Indiana on Sept. 1, 1935 and pronounced final vows on Aug. 12, 1943.
Sister Lourita earned a BS degree from Saint Francis College in Fort Wayne, Ind., and a MS degree in education from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebr. For 52 years she ministered as teacher and principal in Catholic schools staffed by the Sisters of Saint Francis in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. Sister truly enjoyed teaching and was highly respected by both students and teachers.
In 1988 Sister Lourita retired to Mount Saint Francis and continued her service of prayer and light duties as she was able. In 2005 Sister was admitted to Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center.
A Wake Service was held in Canticle Chapel at Mount Saint Francis on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 5:15 p.m. and the Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 also in Canticle Chapel followed by burial in the Mount Saint Francis Cemetery.
