Funeral services for Wanda L. Blomquist, 82, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Bowman Chapel United ?Methodist Church.  Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near the Bowman Chapel church.  Twigg Funeral Home, Guthrie Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
Wanda L. Blomquist, daughter of Gail and Ollivene (Randolph) Shoesmith, was born April 15, 1933 in Guthrie Center.  She passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.??Wanda graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1950.  On Sept. 6, 1954, she married Robert Blomquist at the Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center.  They made their home first? in Des Moines, then Minneapolis and later Council Bluffs.  In 1981, they moved back to Guthrie Center and the Shoesmith family farm.  Wanda worked for various firms, including Taylor Law firm as an accountant and tax specialist.?? Throughout her life she enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading and most especially, her grandchildren. All of her grandchildren have fond memories of "Grandma Bob's" special Peter Rabbit stories.?? Wanda was a member of the Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church where she re-instituted Sunday School. She served as the church treasurer for many years.?? Wanda belonged to the American Association of Working Women, United Methodist Women, and TOPS. She was selected Outstanding Homemaker for Pottawattamie County in 1979. She served as 4-H leader for many years, and was a Farm Bureau Director.  In 2013 she received the? Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award.??
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Venene (Gary) Grow; Wavah (Delbert) Stetzel. Brothers-in-law, Delbert Stetzel and Orrin Sweet; parents-in-law, Rueben and Edith (Hicks) Blomquist.??
Wanda is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Blomquist; daughter Vicki (Dan) Lowe of Hamlin; sons, Mark (Heidi) Blomquist of Guthrie Center; and Kevin Blomquist of Plymouth, Minn. Grandchildren: Tammera (Jeri Bryan) Lowe, Tim Lowe, Greg Lowe, Melissa (David) Mootz, Callen (Kelly) Blomquist, Heath (Ruth) Blomquist, Michael Blomquist and Amanda Blomquist.  Great-grandchildren: Isla Mootz and Henry Blomquist. Sister-in-law, Arlene Sweet of West Des Moines and brother-in-law, Dean Blomquist of Menlo.  Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.?
Memorials can be made to the Guthrie Center Mary J. Barnett? Memorial Library or Guthrie County Hospital.
