Wanda Mae King
Wanda Mae King, 78, of Northglenn, Colo., formerly of Lewis, passed away on March 28, 2013, at Brighton Care Center in Brighton, CO.
Wanda was born in Audubon, on April 29, 1933, the daughter of Franz and Mina Kulla. Upon their death, Wanda was adopted and raised by Gladys (Olds) and Mark D. Smith.
After graduating from high school, she went on to college for a short time before pursuing her education at beauty school.
Wanda married Eugene Lee King on Oct. 25, 1953. They honeymooned in Colorado, where they later made their home, after farming in Lewis for a short time. Wanda worked for the U.S. Postal service as a clerk for 23 years and gave birth to five children. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She & Eugene were inseparable which dubbed them "The Ideal Couple". They shared a love for Hawaii and traveled there several times. They also had a "Hawaiian" theme room, complete with a water fall and bamboo plants, in every home they ever had.
Wanda was also a natural-born caretaker. She dedicated most of her time to loving and caring for her family, regularly preparing big family dinners and making sure everyone was fed.
Wanda is survived by four sons: Mark King of Audubon, Brent King of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mike King and Brian King, both of Strasburg, Colo.; brother, Ernie Kulla of Audubon, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Gina Harvey (King), and her husband, Eugene.
There will be a double graveside service for Wanda and her husband, Eugene King at Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, with Pastor Nadine Aydt officiating. In honor of their love for Hawaii, a Hawaiian theme will be observed-the family requests attendees to dress accordingly.
Roland Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences for the family may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
