HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Charles M. Carswell, 85, husband of Mary Stewart Carswell, entered into rest Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Lance Halford officiating. Interment will follow in Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery. Mr. Carswell, son of the late Charles and Lizzie McCombs Carswell, was a native of Richmond County, and was the owner of Carswell Jewelers. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Story Mill Road Baptist Church and the Korean War Veterans Association. He was also a member of AWI (Certified Watch Maker) and the NRA. He was a past member of the South Augusta Exchange Club. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig M. Carswell, his grandson, T.J. Carswell, and by his brother, John Carswell. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son in law, Jimmy and Karen Carswell John, of Hephzibah; his brother, Robert Carswell, of Hephzibah; his grandchildren, Ashley John, Emily John, Cameron Carswell, and Scott Carswell; and by three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Cameron Carswell, Scott Carswell, Jimmy John, Eric Schlein, Gene Stewart, and Carey Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the South Augusta Exchange Club and the Korean War Veterans Association. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 3508 Professional Circle, Ste A, Augusta, GA 30907. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. I was a customer of Carswell's Jewelers and really missed them when they closed. Mr. Carswell was a wonderful man and will be truly missed. My condolences to his sweet wife, daughter, and family.
