WILLISTON, S.C. - Funeral services for John C. Champy, Sr., 81, of Williston, SC will be held three p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2013 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with burial in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gideon's International, Barnwell Camp, P.O. Born in Orangeburg, SC, he was a son of the late John Thomas Champy, Sr. and Ruby Elizabeth Dimmey Champy. He was a US Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War, was a member of the Williston United Methodist Church where he was chairman of the board. John was chairman of the board of Stewards, Adult Sunday School teacher, director of Sunday School and treasurer for the First Southern Methodist Church of Williston. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America on the local level and the district level. John coached ball for Williston Little League and was an avid fisherman. He retired from SRS as a manager for the Health Physicist Department after 40 years of service. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loving friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jackie Champy; daughter, Sharon C. (Wayne) Gleaton of Williston; sons, John C. (Sheryl) Champy, Jr. of Beech Island, F. Alan (Melissa) Champy of Snelling; grandchildren, Brittany C. (Josh) Givens, Brent A. Champy, Ssgt. Michael (Kimberly) Gainey, Sara Elizabeth Gainey, Holly (Trent) Whitson, Kelly Stillinger, Chad (Allison) Gleaton, Nicholas Champy, Chadwick Champy, Christopher Brumbaugh; great-grandchildren, Will Stillinger, Boyd Gleaton, Aubrey Whitson, John Michael Gainey, III, Cataleya Melody Gainey, Stephany Navarrow, Nelly Bedoya; sisters, Barbara Ann Byrd, June Marie Thomas; brother, J. T. (Teresa) Champy and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Elaine Stewart and brothers, Thomas Champy, Jr. and Cecil Champy.
