O'Neal Freeman

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. O'Neal Freeman, retired Marine Drill Sergeant, left his earthly home and departed to his last duty station, his eternal Heavenly Home, on July 28th, 2013. No public services will be held at this time. Mr. Freeman was born in Columbia, SC on January 7, 1943 to the late Carrie Mae Freeman and Andrew Freeman. He received his primary and secondary education in the Columbia County Public School System. Mr. Freeman was a member of Jehovah Baptist Church in Columbia, SC where he was baptized at the age of 12. He spent his entire professional life in the service of his country. Mr. Freeman served in Vietnam where earned three Purple Hearts. After his retirement from the military he worked as a Lieutenant for Pinkerton Security for over 10 years. Mr. Freeman moved to Augusta in 2004 so that he could be closer to his son. Survivors include his wife, Grace Freeman; a son, Reginald (Nicole) O'Neal Freeman; a brother, Andrew (Laura) Freeman; a sister, Yvonne Peacock. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Mae Freeman, father, Andrew Freeman and brother, Charles Freeman. He also leaves to mourn his passing five grandsons, which he loved very much, Reginald O'Neal Freeman, Brandon Freeman, Destin O'Neal Freeman, Nicarie O'Neal Freeman and Isaiah O'Neal Freeman, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care for the past nine years.
