BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. - Elsie Ann Flanagan Felix entered into the care of God at 12:20AM, Sunday, September 15, 2013. She had beaten breast cancer and lung cancer, but at 78 years young decided to embark on her final adventure rather than battle the pneumonia and MDS that had recently plagued her. Elsie was born January 1, 1935 in Athens, Georgia. After raising a family her adventurous spirit took her to all corners of the world. Following a forty year career in education she joined the Peace Corps at age 63 and spent two years in West Africa, living in a mud hut without water or electricity, and used her education background to teach villagers to become teachers themselves. On her return to the United States she settled in Blairsville, GA where she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and other charitable organizations, and was actively involved in local politics and mastered the art of multi-tasking. Elsie is survived by four children, Teresa Annette Felix, Julia Marie Felix, Sandra Christine Bosch and James R.T. Felix; seven grandchildren, Michael Bosch, Matthew Bosch, Marie Bosch, Lucy Wilhelm, Connor Wilhelm, Justin Felix and Jenica Felix; and one brother, Patrick Flanagan. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to Habitat for Humanity of Towns/Union Counties, P.O. Box 270, Young Harris, GA 30582. Thanks for the toaster, Mom.
