Alexander AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Agnes Martin Alexander, 94, departed this earthly life on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Amara Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from Bethel A.M.E. Church, 623 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, Reverend Augusta Hall, Jr., pastor, and Reverend Mark S. Pierson, eulogist. *The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Agnes was born in Monticello, Florida on February 22, 1922 to the late Elizabeth and John Martin, Jr. She was married for 30 years to the late Reverend James Alexander, Sr. and together they raised ten children. Agnes was a faithful housewife and she enjoyed taking care of her children. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching others indulged in her scrumptious home cooked meals. After her husband retired, Agnes began to work outside of the home where she was dedicated to providing for the needs of others as she went into various homes and provided private duty healthcare/home services. Agnes was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church for 65 years where she joyfully served on Stewardess Board #1. She loved her church family and looked forward to attending church until her declining health prevented her attendance. She was the youngest of four siblings (Willie, Ethel, Annie Mae and Frank); all preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Phillip. Leaving to cherish her memories include 5 sons - James Alexander, Jr. of Augusta, GA, David Alexander (Joyce) of Ocala, FLA., Reverend Samuel Alexander of Augusta, GA, Benjamin Alexander (Allesia) of Lithonia, GA, and John Alexander of Augusta, GA: four daughters - Josephine Alexander Hall of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Alexander of Takoma Park, MD, Louise Warren of Augusta, GA, and Carolyn Brown (Lee) of High Point, NC. Alongside her children, she raised 2 of her grandchildren - Hilda Alexander of Ewing Township, NJ and LaTosha Neal of Lexington, SC; 24 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; a nephew, Eric Martin ( Evvie) of Sanford, FL; and 3 special friends - Betty Jones, Mamie (Sam) Smith, and Josephine Taylor.
