AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Alfred G. Spires, 91, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015. He served in the United States Army in Patton's 108th Armor during WWII, served during the Korean Conflict and retired from the National Guard in 1974. Mr. Spires was a charter member of Green Meadows Golf Club and was a Mason. Mr. Spires was preceded in death by his parents, James Essom and Annie Mae Spires; brother, William "Bill" Spires; wife, Minnie Spires; and grandson, James Larry Tilby, Jr. Alfred is survived by his three daughters, Linda (Larry) Tilby, Barbara Spires and Kay (Vincent) Eubanks; five grandchildren, Jeff Tilby, Tara Garrison, Nicholas Mock, Renee MacGilvray and Shannon Williams; and numerous great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12 - 1PM, Friday, March 20, 2015 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Hillcrest Memorial Park. Graveside services will follow at 1PM, Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeff Tilby, Nick Mock, Darryl Garrison, Jeff Williams, Jeff MacGilvray, Buster McGee and Roy Bishop. Memorial contributions may be made to , 106 SRP Drive, Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
