THOMSON, Ga. - Dr. Ava D. Rodgers, age 83, entered into rest Tuesday July 7, 2015 at her residence. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, in Dearing Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Timmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Dr. Rodgers was born in McDuffie County. She was the daughter of the late L. F. and Georgia Rodgers. She held many positions during her career which include, Home Economics Teacher, Lyerly, Ga., Home Demonstration Agent-4H, Dalton, Ga., Home Demonstration Agent, Ringgold, Ga., State Home Furn. and Art Specialist, Athens, Ga. University of Ga. Cooperative Ext., Assistant Professor, Housing & Interier Design, Fla. State Univ., Tallahassee, Fla., State Leader-Extension Home Economics, Little Rock, Arkansas, she retired from the U.S.D.A. as Deputy Administrator home economics and human nutrition extension service in Washington D.C., and a member of Dearing Baptist Church. She was the author of the book, Housing of Oglethorpe County, Georgia: 1790-1860. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial can be made to Dearing Baptist Church or a . Friends may call at the Curtis Funeral Home.
