EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Barbara Gray Deal, age 96, died Monday, April 29, 2013 at Brandon Wilde Retirement Community. The native of Waynesboro, Georgia was a graduate of Georgia Teacher's College in Statesboro. She taught elementary school in Sylvania and Statesboro for many years. Mrs. Deal moved to Augusta, Georgia 11 years ago to reside at the Brandon Wilde Retirement Community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Statesboro. She was also a member of the Forest Heights Country Club, Spade and Trowel Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Daniel Deal. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Deal Kupperman of Washington, D.C.; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Judson Benjamin Deal and Donna of Augusta, GA; three grandsons and their wives, Dr. John Gray Norris and Trudi; Dr. Robert Tyson Deal and Heather; and Mr. Benjamin Bradford Deal and Karla. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Abigail Layton Norris, Kemp Gray Norris, John Gray Norris, Judson Benjamin Deal II and John Bradford Deal. A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 3:00pm at Brandon Wilde in Augusta, Georgia. The family will receive visitors on Thursday at 2:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church in Statesboro. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm at the First Presbyterian in Statesboro with Rev. Dan Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Eastside Cemetery.
