APPLING, Ga. - Barbara M. Smoak, 67, of Appling, passed at her residence in Appling with her loving husband, Weyman, by her side to the end. Born to the late Thomas H. Mead and Grace Herrington, she was a native of Screven County and a member of the Newington United Methodist Church. She was a banker at Bank of Newington for 22 years. She knew the Lord, Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was excited to meet him face to face. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas H. Mead and Grace Herrington, her parents-in-law, Laure and Verdie Mae Smoak and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gracie and Emmett Boddiford. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Weyman, daughter, Angie and Jerald Lee of Newington, GA; son and daughter-in-law, DeWayne and Andrea Smoak of Evans, GA, sisters, Rose Nunnally (Ronald), Karen Clark, Becky Rogers, Janice Beard, brother, Tommy Mead, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Brenda and Donald Scott, Linda and Hal Duensing, Debby and Donnie Lovett, four grandchildren, Avery and Lane Smoak, and Ed and Madison Lee, step mom, Hazel Mead and special lifetime friend, Billie Boykin. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 5th, at 11:00 a.m. at Newington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler and Rev. Kim Webb officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 with burial to follow in the Newington City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Beard, Charles Lee, Billy Dasher, Charlie Waters, Sonny Lee, and Lewis Grovenstein. Honorary pallbearers will be the women of Newington United Methodist Church.
