US Air Force Retired TIGNALL, Ga. - Mr. Benjamin Michael Long, 81, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Augusta University Medical Center, Augusta. Mr. Long, son of the late George R. and Ruby Smalley Long, was born and raised in Tignall on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 until retiring in 1976 as a Master Sergeant and later retired from the USPS as a rural letter carrier. Since retirement, he and his wife, Jackie have enjoyed living at their home in Tignall. He enjoyed building bluebird houses, and researching genealogy., In addition, he volunteered with Ga Baptist Disaster Relief , the Salvation Army and was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington. His brothers, Ray Long, Laddie Long, and Bobbie Long, preceded him in death. Survivors: Wife, Jackie Garber Long; Daughter, Allison Rogers and husband, Greg of Washington; Grandchildren, Joe Rogers, Jack Rogers, and Jennifer Rogers all of Washington; Great- grandson, Gil Davis; Brother, Dale Long, Marietta, Ga; Sisters, Mary Jane McAvoy, and husband, Thomas of Washington, Ruby Nicholson and husband, Wayne of Montgomery, Al; Sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Long, Simpsonville, Ga, Gertrude Long of Tignall, Marcie Mazoch of Alaska; Brothers-in-law, Terry Garber and wife, Sandy of Alaska, Pete Garber, Arizona. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Independence United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 am Saturday until the hour of the service.
