(Berni) AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest at Trinity Hospital on February 27, 2015, Mrs. Bernice Strock Freedman of Augusta. Mrs. Freedman was born in Boston June 13, 1926. She graduated from Brookline High School in 1943 and was a Kathleen Dell School Graduate. She worked as a Medical Secretary in Boston until the birth of her daughter Linda, who died on Christmas Day in 1978 here in Augusta. After living in Atlanta, she worked part-time for Dr. Bickers, neurosurgeon, Dr. Richardson, cardiologist and Dr. Dunlap, orthopedist. She made her home in Augusta for about 50 years. She transcribed for University Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and MCG as needed part-time, then obtained her real estate license and was employed as sales consultant for 15 years with Bryngelson Real Estate and Insurance Co. In 1980 she went to work as a Kelly Girl and secured a permanent part-time medical transcribing position with Cardiovascular Associates of Augusta. She left to lovingly care for her very ill mother in Boston for about a year before returning home to Augusta. She then went to work for Community Mental Health in respite care, group homes, etc. She loved caring for these very special folks and after her retirement, continued doing respite in her home for many years. Bernice attended Vineyard Church of Augusta and was a faithful helper with their Food Bank; she enjoyed wheeling the loaded carts out to the needful people s transportation and getting to know them personally. Bernice loved her "Coffee Club" at Chick-fil-A and in her past especially loved dancing and her beautiful horses and was an enthusiastic pet lover of all animals, in particular her dogs and cats. She went to Pulmonary Rehab at University Hospital twice a week for many years and appreciated all their concern and help. She was proud of her relationships with her precious friends and saddened when so many left before her. She loved Hilton Head and it was her haven and vacation for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Strock and her beloved daughter, Linda. Survivors: son, Steve Freedman and wife, Jan; brother, Sam Strock and wife, Geri; sister, Lorraine Siegel; long-time partner and friend, Jeff Edeburn; four grandchildren, Steve, Shawn T., Amy and Shawn; seven great-grandchildren, Jonah, Koa, Gabriel, Alistair, Tyler, Nathan and Amelia. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Betty Love officiating in The King Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until time of service. Thomas L. King Funeral Home
