Waynesboro, Ga. – Bernice Gladys Saggus, 96, wife of the late Emmett Earl Saggus, entered into rest Saturday, May 5, 2015, at University Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, May 8, 2015, at 3:00 PM, from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Jerry Peele officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, GA. Mrs. Saggus, daughter of the late John Benjamin and Eva Wise Belcher, was born in Jefferson County, GA, and graduated from Wadley High School. She was self-employed as a hairdresser and was a member of Briarcliff Baptist Church. She was the last survivor of seven siblings. A former Miss Atlanta, she graduated from Crawford W. Long Nursing School and was employed at Warm Springs, where she nursed President Roosevelt. She is survived by her niece Annette Brassell, of Waynesboro; her great niece, Tonya Dickens, of Hephzibah; her great nephews, Tyler Pruitt and Joshua Dickens, both of Hephzibah; and numerous other family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Pruitt and Joshua Dickens.
