PERKINS, Ga. - Mr. Byron L. Newton, 88, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Emanuel County, a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, a retired Rural Mail Carrier after 42 years, a retired farmer and a member of Habersham United Methodist Church. Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents, John C Newton Sr. and Maggie Sherrod Newton; a brother, John C. "Jack" Newton Jr.; and a great-grandson, Anderson Tucker Newton. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Habersham United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Hawes Newton; a daughter, Penny Weaver (Tim); Jamie Newton (Teresa) all of Perkins; 4 grandsons, Drew Newton, Jake Newton, Matt Weaver, Will Weaver, and granddaughter, Jessy Weaver; and a great-grandchild, Bailey Newton. Active Pallbearers will be Jake Newton, Drew Newton, Matt Weaver, Will Weaver, Bruce Hawes, and Gary Hawes. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the North Jenkins County Fire Department and Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Camp 2102.
