NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Memorial Services for Mrs. Carol Grantham, 68, who joined the presence of our Lord November 22, 2014, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. John Meyer officiating. Mrs. Grantham was born in Durham, NC on July 17, 1946, was reared in Reidsville, NC and made North Augusta her home for the past 12 years. She attended Wake Forest University with a major in French. During her freshman year at Wake Forest, she was voted the homecoming queen for her class, "Miss Baby Deac." Following her college career, she worked as an English and Drama teacher for Wentworth High School in NC. While in Wentworth, she assisted in implementing the adult high school program at Rockingham Community College. She also worked as a Family Life Editor for the Reidsville Review in Reidsville, NC, writing feature stories and the NC Press Award winning weekly column, "Searching for Shells." Mrs. Grantham wrote and had two books published on the history of Reidsville Fire Department and the history of Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, NC. She was a Canadian horse groomer with the Mohawk Racing in Campbellville, Ontario, Canada. Most recently, Mrs. Grantham worked at Tri-Development in North Augusta, SC as a skills coach for the individuals with intellectual disabilities where she received the statewide SCAAIDD Outstanding Service to the Field Award: Direct Support Professional in 2008. She was a woman of many talents; teacher, artist, writer and musician. Mrs. Grantham was a beautiful pianist, enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook. She was a dedicated cat lover but most importantly she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and passionately served Him throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her father Dr. Paul Mabe, Jr. Survivors include her husband of ten years, Eddie Grantham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Lynn and Lee Nance, Elizabeth Anne and Kent Marlowe; a step-son, Dillon Joel Grantham; her mother, Grace Truman Mabe; a brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Kaye Mabe; five grandchildren, Claire Alcala, Stevie-Lee Nance, Grace Anne Marlowe, Isaac Marlowe; two great-grandchildren, Ana Marie Jenkins, Amonie Grace Jenkins and an expected great-grandchild, Alyona Leigh Alacala; a niece and nephew, Beth Fletcher and Paul Mabe IV; four great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Memorials may be made to Tri-Development of North Augusta, 123 Pinewood Road, North Augusta, SC 29841.
