Ret. U.S. Navy THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Carol S. Whitaker, 76, beloved husband of Mrs. Jerry Smith Whitaker, entered into rest on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Lake Crossing Health Center, Appling, GA. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, GA, with full Military Honors. A native of McDuffie Co., GA, Mr. Whitaker was a Retired United Sates Navy Petty Officer First Class, having served two duties in Vietnam. He received while serving in the Navy the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Mr. Whitaker was a member of Silver Run Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, boiling peanuts and sitting on the back porch. Additional survivors include his five sons, James "Buddy" Whitaker (Brandy), David Allen Whitaker, Jeffery Scott Whitaker (Teresa), Paul Brian Whitaker and Curtis Dwayne Whitaker (Tonya); two stepsons, Gary Rabun and Darrell Rabun; two stepdaughters, Melba Dees (Danny) and Laurie Hall ; seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
