AUGUSTA, Ga. - Charles "Chuck" F. Tarver, Jr. passed away December 3, 2015 at age 98. Chuck was born in Savannah, Georgia, graduated from Boys High in Savannah and attended Georgia Tech for two years. He joined the Army Air Corps in March 1942, training as a navigator and bombardier. His first posting during the war was in the anti-sub patrol off the coast of Florida and Cuba. He then flew 50 missions over Europe. During the post war occupation of Japan, he spent 3 years there in the military government. Other post war assignments included Texas, Puerto Rico, Maine, Florida and Thule, Greenland. He retired from the Air Force in 1962 with the rank of major. In 1952 he married Eloise Brock who died in 1966 after 14 years of marriage. Subsequently, in 1968, Charles married Lillian Edelsen. They were married for 43 years. Mr. Tarver's survivors include his stepson, Richard Brock of Stone Mountain, GA; his nephew, Philip Friess of Torrance, CA; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grand children. A Memorial service will be held December 14th, 10:30am at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Augusta. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Golden Harvest Food Bank of Augusta.
