WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Charlie E. Johnson, Jr., husband of 52 years to the late Mrs. Eleanor B. Johnson entered into rest Monday, May 16, 2016 at the residence. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro with the Reverend Craig Hutto and the Reverend Griffin Thompson officiating. Mr. Johnson was a life- long resident of Burke County and a member of Vidette United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Waynesboro Exchange Club, on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Waynesboro for 64 years, he was a member of the Waynesboro American Legion and served on the Board of Education in Burke County. Mr. Johnson attended Middle Georgia College, Class of 1941, before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II where he flew P-40's, P-47's nd P-51's. He was an avid aircraft owner and a pilot his entire life. Mr. Johnson was the owner of Johnson Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC Trucks with his brother Billy Joe for 45 years. He was also a farmer and raised cattle on the family farm. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Johnson Burroughs; his brother, Billy Joe Johnson; and his son, Henry Blount Johnson. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie E. III and Gloria W. Johnson of Waynesboro, Michael P. and Lynda Johnson, of Ringold, GA; sisters, Juanita Johnson Brightwell of Signal Mountain, TN and Mary Nell Perry of Augusta; six grandchildren, Krista Marie Johnson, Charles E. Johnson IV, Laura Ann Jordan, Steven Johnson, Eric Johnson, Kellie Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Osborne, Andrew Thomas, Garret Richards, Joe Brooks Jordan and Charles Findley Jordan; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Ellye Osborne and Trystan Osborne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Walter R. Voyles, Sammy Jenkins, Chris Sylvester, Fred Hargrove, Gilbert Peel and the Directors of First National Bank and the Waynesboro American Legion, Post 120. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 420, Waynesboro, GA 30830 or Vidette United Methodist Church, 7728 Highway 305, Louisville, GA 30434.
