CONWAY, S.C. - On May 28, 2015 Coach Clayton Harrison Chriswell lost his battle with Lung Cancer. His wife and children were by his side as he drifted off to coach the big football game in the sky. He was born to Lillian Johnson and E.M. Buck Chriswell of Bath S.C. on July 10, 1943. Coach Chriswell was a graduate of LBC High and the University of South Carolina. He served as an MP in the Air Force and completed a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He spent 30 years as a successful Athletic Director, Head Football Coach, Physical Education teacher, and guidance counselor. He dedicated his life to high school athletics and loved all his students and players. He enjoyed his retirement at the beach by spending time with his best friends Marilyn and Ryan Webster, golfing, fishing, and shagging. He was beloved by his family and friends and will be forever missed. Survived by his wife Melody; his children, Tessa (Ganem )Cartwright of Cheraw S.C, Dallas Chriswell of Austin,Texas, Erin Chriswell of Conway SC; Grandsons, Gage Martin, K.C. Cartwright; Granddaughter's Alicia and Emily Cartwright of Timmonsville SC; great grandsons, Jayden Cartwright and Samuel Beard; his sister, Tessa (Bruce) Attaway; Brothers, Alex (Kay) Chriswell and Mark Johnson; Father , J.C. 'Papa' Johnson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Johnson, Father E.M.Buck Chriswell, and grandparents Harrison and Ann Collins, Ezra and Nellie Chriswell, 2 Nieces,6 Nephews, 3 great Nieces 7 great nephews and many Cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 3PM at Hatcher Funeral Home. The family will greet friends immediately following the service until 5PM. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be sent to the Fox Creek Athletic Department, 165 Short Cut Rd, North Augusta S.C 29860.
