Darwin Womack Obituary

SWAINSBORO, Ga. - Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Darwin Lee Womack, age 93, of Swainsboro, Georgia who passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at his residence after a brief illness. Funeral services are Friday, April 4th, at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating. Interment will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at Durden-Hudson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 03, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm or at the home of Dr. & Mrs. Fred D. Womack. Pallbearers are Steven Burke, Jake Daughtry, Kerry Roach, Glenn Womack, David Womack, Sterling Miller, Wayne Hartley, and G. W. Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Young Men's Progressive Sunday School Class and members of the Swainsboro Gideon's Camp. Mr. Womack was the son of Moses Malcolm Womack and Naomi Bennett Womack. Mr. Womack was born March 9, 1915 near Garfield in Emanuel County, Georgia. His loving wife Gussie Shepherd Womack and his son, James M. Womack, predeceased him. After service in the US Army 1933-1935, Mr. Womack worked for several years with Derst Baking Company, then for 36 years with Bankers Life Insurance Company. He was ordained a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Swainsboro in 1943, where he also served as Sunday School Superintendent, Building Committee Chairman and Teacher. He was a member of Gideons International for more than 40 years. Survivors include wife, Bernice Tucker Womack, of Swainsboro; one son and daughter-in-law Fred D. and Judy Womack of Swainsboro, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol W. and Charlie Goodroe of Macon, GA; two brothers: James D. Womack of Garfield, Georgia and Benjamin F. Womack of Pooler, Ga.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Gideons International.
