AUGUSTA, Ga. - Sgt. Maj. David Wayne Butler, U.S. Army (Retired), entered into rest on Friday, March 11, 2016. Sgt. Maj. Butler was born on August 13, 1942, to the late Florence Helen Maxey and Roy David Butler. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving for 28 years, during which he received the Silver Star, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star medals. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and the Georgia Bulldogs. He adored his two pugs, Missy and Bitsy. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Phillip Butler, and his grandmother, Lula Butler. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Bonnie Butler of Augusta, Georgia; his daughter, Susan R. Woods (Greg) of Augusta, Georgia; his granddaughters, Noel R. Weathers and Heather Burch; his grandson, Nicholas Woods; his great-granddaughters, Zaylee and Millie; his sister, Judy Pollock of Valdosta, Georgia; and a host of cousins and extended family. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Monday, March 14th, 2016, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road. Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, March 15th, 2016, at the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
