NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C./ DERBY, England - Mr. David H. Drakeley, 76, entered into rest Sunday, December 21, 2014. He forever remains the loving husband, father and friend to his beautiful wife, Celia Drakeley; his children, Davina Drakeley-Lever (Charles Lever), Karen Drakeley (Timothy Williams); his late and beloved son, Iain Drakeley; his grandson, Alwyn Lever and his extended Highlander family. He was originally a boiler engineer, which brought him and his family to the United States in 1977. It was, however, in 1978 that he solidified himself within our hearts and minds by opening the Highlander Inn Pub in North Augusta. Through this act, David and his family became pioneers of the English people, unique to our very own greater-Augusta region. It was here that he introduced our home land to aspects of his, including the shepherd's pie, the Scotch egg, and darts. That ever-famous British accent was also introduced to North Augusta, where David's voice will forever echo up and down Georgia Avenue and across the Savannah River. After a private service the family will receive friends on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at The Highlander, 133 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC at 6:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to The Children's Hospital of Georgia, Attn: Catherine Stewart, 1446 Harper Street BT 1847 Augusta, GA 30912.
