EVANS, Ga. - Mr. David Owen Fort, Jr., 74, beloved husband of 54 years of Carol Allen Fort, entered into rest on Monday, July 6, 2015 at University Hospital. A man who lived for God and his family. A man who worked diligently personally, professionally, and on the mission field as he walked the walk and talked the talk. A man who always had a big smile and kind word of encouragement to match. A man who was honest and wise. A man who was a Godly example to the next generation and treated all with love and respect. A man who put smiles on the faces of kids every Sunday morning and put peppermints in their hands. A man who smiled as he cleaned up happily after every children's church activity every week and said it was all good because they were learning about Jesus. And the best "Poppy" there ever was! Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 10, 2015 at West Acres Baptist with the Rev. Larry Harmon officiating. His body will lie in state from 10-11am. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Fort was a charter member and deacon of West Acres Baptist Church. He also coached Little League & Dixie Youth baseball for many years. In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his three sons, Kevin Fort (Lara), Micah Fort (Laurie) and Derek Fort (Michele), and his grandchildren, States, Cade, Asa, Grace, Rushton, Gloria and Preslee. He's also survived by two sisters, Carol Anne Works (Denny) and Margaret Wehn (Bob), as well as his mother-in-law, Lillie Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Carolyn Fort, and daughter, Mitzie Fort. Pallbearers will be Denny Mack, Mitch Verdell, Rob Neff, Adam Cox, Josh Heath and David Cummings. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Perdue, Jim Chatfield, Jason Evans, Jesse Moore, and the deacons of West Acres.
