BELVEDERE, S.C. - Dorie King, 72, of Belvedere, SC, entered into rest on August 24, 2016, while under hospice care for liver cancer. She was born on October 11, 1943, in Union Point, GA to Otis and Lovonia (Green) Byrd. Dorie grew up in Harlem, GA and graduated from Spartanburg High School. She later received an associate degree in accounting from Aiken Technical College. She worked for the Southern Bell Telephone Company and then Brealts Studios where she met her future husband Jim C. King of Savannah, GA. The couple wed on August 9, 1969, and was married for 25 years until Jim passed away on September 9, 1994. Mrs. King has been a well-loved member of her community for the past 45 years. She enjoyed serving in the children's bus ministry, the senior citizen outreach, and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Dorie was an avid gardener and often brought flowers and figs to friends and neighbors. She was fiercely loyal to those she loved and never gave up, even when things were hard. The family extends a special thank you to Mrs. Bettie Mathews and Dorie's church family at Second Providence Baptist Church for all they have done. Dorie is survived by sons, Kirk (Jennifer) King of Evans, GA and Kevin (Carolyn) King of Augusta, GA.; by siblings Libby Hardin of Gray, GA, Bert Ashley of Chino, CA, Roger (Betty) Byrd of Grovetown, GA, Wesley (Angie) Byrd of Conroe, TX, Alvin (Nelda) Byrd of Bowdon, GA, Harold (Sue) Byrd of Hiriam, GA, Malcolm (Patty) Byrd of Crestwood, KY, Judy Carson of Stapleton, GA, Annette Sturkey of Harlem, GA; and by four grandchildren. Dorie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and by her brother, John Byrd of Augusta, GA. Memorial Services with Rev. Dr. Albert M. James officiating will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Second Providence Baptist Church in North Augusta, SC.
