THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Walden Drake Widener, 19, of Thomson entered into rest May 9, 2016. Mr. Widener was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, GA. He was a 2014 graduate of Thomson High School where he played baseball for the Diamond Dogs. Mr. Widener was employed as a welder for Poss Welding. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Widener was predeceased by his grandfather, Herb Widener; uncle, Steve Widener; aunt, Debra Wallace; and cousin, Dillon Widener. Survivors include his father, William "Skipper" Widener and mother, Bonnie Richards Widener; a brother, Brenton Widener (Courtney) and nephew, Noah Widener of Powder Springs, Ga; paternal grandmother, Maye Widener McCollough (Jim) of Melbourne, Fl; maternal grandparents, Russell and Elizabeth Richards of Thomson, GA. Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the chapel at Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, GA with Rev. Butch Baston and Rev. Don Widener officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. If so desired, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Drake Widener Scholarship Fund c/o Tracie Yelton 224 Morris Road, Thomson, Ga. 30824.
