McCORMICK, S.C. - Mrs. Ellora L. Montgomery, age 77, formerly of Cornelia, GA and Atlanta, GA, currently residing in McCormick, SC passed away Wednesday February 4th, 2015 from natural causes at Hospice Atlanta. Born January 14th, 1938 in Habersham County GA, to Thomas L. and Viola B. London, she was raised with 9 brothers and sisters on Pea Ridge Road in Habersham County. She loved playing with her brothers and sisters as a child, and was a very big help raising her siblings. As the youngest child, she worked diligently cooking, cleaning, and caring for her family, and along the way became an excellent student. She attended college in Rome, GA at Martha Berry College. When she saw Dad there at a Halloween dance, the brave little Freshman didn't hesitate to walk right up to him, introduce herself, and forever capture his heart. After leaving Berry College, Ellora began work as a switchboard operator with the Bell Telephone Company. In 1970 the family moved to Chamblee and put down roots. 3 kids later, she was a busy housewife and domestic engineer, running a house with kids going in different directions in all kinds of school programs and events, cooking incredible meals, and making sure they all got to go and see the world she didn't have the chance to see until later in life. After the kids were on their own, She and Monty retired to McCormick, SC in the early 2000's. She loved playing golf and traveling with him. She also enjoyed playing board games of all types with friends in the McCormick area. With seven grandchildren, there was finally time to get out on the lake, play golf with the grandkids, and enjoy traveling the world on trips to Scotland, Ireland, and Italy with her husband of 56 years. Ellora was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Viola London, and her brothers, Thomas B. and Carl J. London. She is survived by her life's love, her husband James David Montgomery, Sr.; their children James David Montgomery II, Wallace Craig Montgomery, and Kimberley Ellora Montgomery, and grandchildren Sara K., Evan J., Kyle J., Alexander J., and Ryan M. Montgomery, and Mina N. and Christian T. Brummett. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14th, 2015, at the Chamblee First United Methodist Church, 4147 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd., Chamblee, GA. Family and friends are welcome to visit afterwards in the church social hall. Memorial gifts in Ellora's name may be made to McCormick United Methodist Church, McCormick, SC or to Hospice Atlanta. Another memorial service is planned for Ellora for their McCormick, SC community at a date to be announced later.
