GIBSON, Ga. - Mrs. Ethel W. Hughes, age 91, of Gibson, died Wednesday morning, April 20, 2016 in the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Gibson First Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Don Drawdy officiating. Pallbearers will be: Daniel Pittman, Donald Kent, Russell Clark, Dr. Carroll Hughes, Dr. Bob Hughes, Jay Axon and Cloyce Pittman, Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Brad Hughes and Dean Couch. A native and lifelong resident of Gibson, Mrs. Hughes was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Ola Poole Williams. She owned and operated Hughes Variety store in Gibson for many years and was a member of Gibson First Baptist Church. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert Hughes; daughter, Pattie Jo Hughes; son, Thomas Hubert Hughes; sister, Ann Laura Williams and a brother, Horace Williams. She is survived by her daughter, Angela H. Pittman, of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Daniel Pittman of Milledgeville, Natalie Pittman of Nashville, TN, Brooke Axon of Dearing, Brad Hughes of Atlanta; daughter-in-law, Patti Hughes of Charleston, SC and 2 great-grandchildren.
