Eva Mae was a native of Hephzibah, GA and resided in Martinez for the past 23 years. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, and a proud sister of Kappa Delta sorority. Following a 30 year teaching career Eva Mae retired, but continued to keep everyone - old and young - on their toes. After retirement she was caregiver for her husband and her mother. She was an avid card player, followed Georgia Bulldogs football, and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Eva Mae is predeceased by her husband, James Guy Hancock, and her daughter, Rebecca Hancock Mooney. She was the daughter of Weldon Eve and Ollie Burkhalter Rheney. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Carolyn and Ron Thigpen; her grandchildren, Carrie Thigpen Hodge (Jamie) and Kenneth Guy Mooney; her sister, Mary Rheney Daniels; and special friend Joanne Jones. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Allie and JT Hodge, her precious Rheney cousins, nieces Rheney Martin, Linda Ritter and Kitty Blissit, nephew Steve Daniels. She leaves behind her beloved cat, Lucy. The family expresses appreciation to Adriana Council, Regina Jackson, Belinda Leverett, and Leena Nelson, and to Tanya Bryant and Sandra Wilson of ResCare Home Health Services. Services will be Monday, January 4, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Greg Porterfield and Pastor Bryan Matthews officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M.
