Turner AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Evelyn Virginia Walker Turner entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church with the Rev. Dr. Paul W. Gardner, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church, Wellford, SC. Mrs. Turner retired from the Richmond County School System in 1992 with over 30 years of service in Glascock County and Augusta-Richmond County Public Schools (combined). Having taught grades K-12 throughout her career, she was a pioneer in the Kindergarten education program at A. Brian Merry Elementary School from which she retired. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Paine College (Augusta, GA; C/O 57') and a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University. She was a faithful member of Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church for more than 50 years since graduating from Paine College. She served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Class Leader and Stewardess. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children: Dr. Victoria Turner-Whitfield (Steven), Fairburn, GA, Dr. Myrtle Turner-Harris (Douglas), Riverdale, GA; grandchildren: Rev. Jennifer Jones-Presley (Curtis), Orange Park, FL; great-grandchildren: Taylor Brianna Presley, Curtis Javon-James Presley, Jr. and Emory Javon Presley, Orange Park, FL; nieces: Janet Walker, Nancy Robinson (the late Allen Robinson, Sr.), Christine Petersen, Jacqueline Mathis-Ellis (Chester), Dewitt Walker (Connie); godson: Mark Oliphant; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and beloved family and friends.
