GREENWOOD, S.C. - Mary "Flo" Hilliard Young, 88, of Greenwood, widow of Kenneth Earl Young, passed away on August 29, 2015, at Petra Health and Rehabilitation in McCormick, SC, surrounded by family and caring staff. She is survived by her daughters, Mabrey Young (Johnny) Lyon of Plum Branch, SC, and Christie Young (Mark) Maund of Augusta, GA; her grandchildren, Katherine Copeland Maund of Portland, OR, Mary Baker Maund of Atlanta, GA and Houston Faulk Maund of Evans, GA; her "adopted" family, Terry and Linda Borgert of Greenwood, Derek (Caroline) Borgert of New York, NY, Andy (Elinor) Borgert of Beaufort, SC; and "great-grandchildren", Jonathan Borgert and James Borgert. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Edward Hilliard and Ellen Copeland Hilliard; her brother, Harry Edward Hilliard, Jr. and her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Earl Young. Flo was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on July 26, 1927. She grew up in Little Rock and later moved with her family to Charlotte, NC, where she graduated from Central High School and later graduated with a teaching degree from Queens College. Flo and Ken were married in 1949, and moved to Greenwood, SC in 1961. Flo was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she volunteered for Back Yard Bible School, worked in the church library, chaperoned youth trips, enjoyed Sunday School classes, Disciple Bible Study and the Common Thread knitting group. Flo was an avid reader and enjoyed her time at the Greenwood County Public Library as an employee and later a volunteer. She had many hobbies and enjoyed traveling, fishing, Scrabble, working in her yard, Braves baseball and being with family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Thrailkill and Rev. Mark Maund officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park prior to the service.
