AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, January 27, 2015, Francis "Frank" A. Fleming, Sr., 85, husband of Elizabeth Betty (Zahn) Fleming. Frank was born in Keyport, NJ on May 10, 1929 to the late Frank G. and Theresa M. (Goetz) Fleming. Growing up he loved horseback riding, baseball and sailing, and attended St. Joseph's Grammar School and Keyport HS. He joined the Navy in 1946, being stationed primarily in Cuba for three years. He played baseball there, and went on to play in the minor league for a short time. Frank attended Newark College of Engineering, and his technical skills led him to teach satellite communications at Fort Monmouth, NJ. He followed this position to Fort Gordon, GA, moving to Evans in 1976, and worked there for 35 years. Family, friends, and community service played a large role in Frank's life. He led the family on cross country trips and other camping and hiking adventures, and loved hunting and fishing. He was a fixture at school activities, including umpiring in baseball and softball youth leagues and serving on the Evans Booster Club. He also served in the Keyport First Aid Squad and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, bowling in the church's league, and was also a member of the Winfield Coffee Club. He was welcomed into heaven by his mother and father, his brother, Eugene; and his grandson, Alexander. Surviving family members in addition to his wife include daughters: Lisa Fleming, Mary Ellen Mehler (Michael) and Judy McLure (Gary); sons: Larry Fleming (Tracy), Frank A. Fleming, Jr. (Vanamey) and Joel Fleming (Christi); and grandchildren: Philip, Anna, Carolyn, Robert, Emily, Owen, Andrew, Addison, Sydney, Samantha, Kimmy, Erin, Valerie, Frank, Jackson, Coleman, Annelise, Megan, and Trent; and 6 great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Roverse officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church Building Fund at 4921 Columbia Rd., Grovetown, GA 30813.
