WRENS, Ga. - Freddie Gene Schmidt, 64, loving husband of 35 years to Sharon Leigh McGahee Schmidt, entered into eternal rest Saturday night, June 27, 2015 at Georgia Regents Medical Center. Funeral service will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00AM Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery. Freddie grew up in Augusta and graduated from Butler High School. After working at E Z Go Textron for 17 years, he worked as Custodian for the Jefferson County High School. Freddie enjoyed being outdoors and was an animal lover. A devoted family man, he was most content in their presence. This quiet, reserved man with a sweet, gentle, loving spirit will be greatly missed. Freddie is preceded in death by his parents, Janie Quick Schmidt and Fred Lewis Schmidt; and his father-in-law, Ralph McGahee. Other survivors include his son, William Lewis Schmidt (Leigh Anne); three grandchildren, Landon Hayes Schmidt, Lucas Walker Schmidt and Addison Leigh Schmidt; mother-in-law, Evelyn McGahee; sisters-in-law, Lynn Gay (Billy), Tammy Graham (Jimmy) and Kaye Lacy; several nieces and nephews; his canine "babies", Lulu and Myrtie; and many friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Gay, Jimmy Graham, Willie Lacy, Ricky Wells, Ben Cunningham and Donald Terrell.
