AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Futhey Roberson Babcock, 101, husband of the late Mrs. Carol Latimer Babcock entered into rest Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1630 15th Street, Augusta with Reverend Dr. Paul W. Gardner. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Babcock was born May 8, 1912, in Chester, South Carolina. He attended Brainard Institute High School in Chester and later served overseas in the United States Navy. He was a member of Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years. He loved his church and his church family. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Paine College and his Master's Degree in Secondary Education from New York University. Mr. Babcock taught at Lucy C. Laney High School for nineteen years and Glenn Hills High School for seven years he retired in 1972. Throughout the years he worked in the community and was a long time leader of a Boy Scout Troop at the Bethlehem Community Center Augusta. A founding member of the Board of Directors of Belair Hills Estates. He was a founding member of the Augusta Chorale and served as the Treasurer. Survivors are niece, Mrs. Doris Babcock Hood; great nephew, Mr. Michael Hood; great great niece, Ms. Micah Hood, all of Detroit, Michigan; great niece, Lujuana Hood of Massachusetts; two devoted care givers/nephews, Dr. Latimer Blount (Jean) and Mr. Robert Calhoun of Augusta; two loving nieces, Dr. Edith Calhoun of New York and Mrs. Edith Agee, Auburn, Alabama; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Latimer, Elizabeth Latimer and Lucille Floyd, all of Augusta; and a host of other relatives and friends.
