"Gene" HARLEM, Ga. - Phanuel E. "Gene" Grider, 94, husband of 57 years to the late Sara Reville Grider, entered into rest Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015, in the Harlem Memorial Cemetery with the Dr. Robert J. Blankenship officiating. Mr. Grider was born in Bradley County, Arkansas to the late Marvin and Mary Frances Grider. He was a US Army WWII Veteran and an Army Signal School Instructor for Fort Gordon. Mr. Grider was the first President of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 2017 and was a participant in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project for WWII. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Galen E. Grider (Shelley); two daughters, Sheila G. Wahman (Chris) and Joletta G. Cason (John, Jr.); nine grandchildren, Kristina Cason Fowler (Ben), Anna Cason, Zachary Grider, Amelia Grider, Trey Hobbs, Alexandr Wahman, Joseph Wahman, Michael Wahman and Sarah Wahman; and one great-grandchild Everlee Fowler. Pallbearers will be Trey Hobbs, Zachary Grider, Alexandr Wahman, Joseph Wahman, Michael Wahman and Ben Fowler. The family will receive friends on Saturday, following the service, at the graveside.
