APPLING, Ga. - Gene Meadows Smith, 77, of Appling, GA, passed away peacefully at GA War Vets Nursing Home in Augusta, GA. His Memorial Service will be held on January 10, 2015 at 10AM at In Focus Church located at 562 Old Evans Road in Evans, GA. Gene was born in Morehead City, NC on September 19, 1937. He served in the USAF for 20 years as air traffic controller. He served two tours in Vietnam. He became the Senior Pastor of In Focus Church officially in November 1990. He served there until August of 2005. He loved to teach the Word of God and see the local church family grow in the grace of God. He was known for his sermon series. He moved in the supernatural gifts of God which strengthen the local body. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Smith, and his son, Jim Gaskill, from Gainesville, VA. He has two surviving sisters, Sandra Smith and Judy Pitcher. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Meadows Smith and Mary Vance Sanders Smith. The family sincerely thanks the nurses and staff of GA War Vets Nursing Home for the daily care given to Pastor Gene. A special thanks also for EveryNation NYC and Dr. Keith and Mary Blevins for their gifts that enabled Gene to stay in nursing home.
