COLUMBIA, S.C. - A service to celebrate the life of Gerald Deforest Baxter, 83, of Columbia will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday October 12, 2016 at Northeast Presbyterian Church with Dr. George Crow Officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday October 11, 2016 at Kornegay & Moseley. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday October 13, 2016 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NEPC Legacy of Faith Campaign, 601 Polo Rd., Columbia, SC 29223. Mr. Baxter passed away Saturday October 8, 2016. He was born in Stone Mountain, GA. and was the son of the late Alfred J. Baxter and Lois Bowman Baxter. Mr. Baxter was a deacon and elder emeritus at Northeast Presbyterian Church. In addition he was a US Navy Veteran having served in Korea and a lifetime Rotarian with most recent membership at the Spring Valley Rotary Club. A career sales and management executive, at the time of his passing he was actively engaged as Real Estate Broker. Mr. Baxter was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Janice Young Baxter. Mr. Baxter is survived by his children, Steve (Linda) Baxter and Jerry (Cheryl) Baxter; grandchildren, Steven Ryan (Allison) Baxter, Charles Wesley (Holly) Baxter, Gerald Healy Baxter and Elizabeth Marlene Baxter; great grandchildren, Charles Pacey Baxter, Davis Ryan Baxter and Wesley Nolan Baxter; sister, Carolyn Baxter Kinsey and brother, Dan B.
