NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. - Reverend H. Allen (Joe) Green formerly of 1652 Luckey Street, Augusta, passed away in New York City on February 27, 2014 of complications from open heart surgery. Rev. Green was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 20, 1947 to the late Mabel Green and Joseph Mann. He was the grandson of the late Henry and Amilue (Nick) Green. Joe, as he was known in his youth, received a Bachelors of Arts Degree at Augusta College, where he distinguished himself as the first Black President of the Student Council. Prior to entering Augusta College he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps; served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was licensed to preach at the age of 16 and was ordained in 1989. A gregarious and outgoing man, he will be remembered for his charm, wit and love of life. At his request no funeral was held. Memorials will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, Atlanta and New York City. Rest well, Joe, we will miss you. Barbara, Kim, Jackie and Tina.
