AUGUSTA, Ga. - Coach Henry Robinson Daggett entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta, Georgia at the age of 85. Hank, as he was often called, was the son of the late Mr. Eugene Oliver and Mrs. Georgia Jackson Daggett. He was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia and was the husband to the late Dorothy Pitts Daggett. He attended the public schools of Augusta, Georgia to include Peter H. Craig Elementary and graduating from Haines Institute in 1943. Henry continued his post secondary education at Paine College of Augusta, graduating in 1950 and he received his Masters of Education Degree from Tennessee State University. Upon returning to Augusta he taught Physical Education and coached three sports, football, basketball and track, at Paine College. Henry later became the P.E. teacher, football coach and athletic director at the new A. R. Johnson Junior High School. Later he moved to T. W. Josey High School where he taught and was the first football coach and athletic director. Henry remained there until his retirement in 1985. Henry was both a trustee and deacon at Thankful Baptist Church and a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He was a member of the R. C. T. Federal Credit Union s Supervisory Board, the Port Authority of Augusta-Richmond County and the Canal Authority of Augusta. He is survived by his devoted sons, Ricardo and Raoul; daughter-in-law, Lauretha (Mert); twin brother, Eugene (Patricia); grandsons, Vachel (Veronica) and Cameron; great-grandsons, Aden and Jaxson; adopted daughter, Gracie (Stanley) Hampton; godchildren, Nanette Barnes and Yewston Meyers, III; adopted son, Ronnie O. (Audrey) Spry; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other loving friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. from Thankful Baptist Church, 302 Walker Street, with Reverend Christopher Waters, pastor-officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.
