AUGUSTA, Ga. - Colonel (retired) Homer C. Pickens, Jr. entered into rest Thursday, July 23, 2015. A memorial service will be held at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church on August 6, 2015 at 11 a.m., with a reception following. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a time to be determined. Col. Pickens was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico but has lived in Augusta for the past 34 years. He served 24 years as an officer in the U.S. Army, serving three tours in Vietnam. Col. Pickens was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Benson Pickens of Augusta; his son, Homer C. Pickens III (Suzanne) of McLean, Virginia; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Robert, and Katherine. Col. Pickens is also survived by two brothers, Jack Pickens (Deanna) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jim Pickens (Joana) of Abilene, Texas, and one sister, Betty Cabber (Max) of Estancia, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.
