NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. James Bates lost his battle with cancer on March 26, 2015, with his wife Louise, by his side. Jim served in 2 wars. He was both military and law enforcement retired. He was a licensed boat captain, piloted the Princess Augusta, opened Riverwalk Marina, and operated the Lock and Dam. His life was busy. He was a locksmith, machinist, managed and maintained 3 apartment complexes. He also found time to do home repairs for family, friends, and widowed ladies from church. Jim was a member of York and Scottish Rites, Acacia Lodge, and the American Legion. A private memorial service will be held in South Carolina and Dr. Marjorie Thompson (Jim's sister) will hold another memorial service in Ohio at later dates.
