KEYSVILLE, Ga. - James Laurence Jackson, 82, of Keysville, GA, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2015. Born in Clinton, IN on April 6, 1933, he was the son of Laurence Ellsworth Jackson and Marie Woods Jackson. After graduating from Waveland High School in 1951 in Indiana, Mr. Jackson enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his return from a tour in Korea, he was based at Fort Benning, GA. There he met the love of his life, Shirley Claire Hinton, a student at LaGrange College. They were married for 58 years before she passed on September 13, 2014. Mr. Jackson completed his education at Indiana State in Terre Haute, IN, before moving to Atlanta in 1959 to work for Georgia Tech. The family moved to Athens, GA in 1966, where Mr. Jackson worked in Business Services for the University of Georgia until his retirement. Besides a wonderful husband and father, he was a faithful member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, where he volunteered his computer expertise, an avid golfer, and a Bulldog fan. He is survived by his three children: Victoria Jackson-Price, Joseph Lamar Jackson (Lori), and Jonathan Jackson (Cheryl); five grandchildren: Alexandria and Jackson Price of Keysville, Caroline Jackson of Frisco, TX, Aidan and Audrey Jackson of Marietta, GA; and a brother, Joseph Allen Jackson (Lois) of Clinton, IN. The family will receive visitors at Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson, GA on Friday, April 24, from 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at the at 1 o'clock p.m., Saturday, April 25 in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, with Rev. James Mooneyhan officiating. Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jackson Price, Roy Stampley III, Robert Stampley, Jason Brown, Chris Brown, and Robert Vickroy. Honorary pallbearers will be the UGA Seniors Golf Group. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the The United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30030.
