Retired Realtor Jane B. Hawes, 88, entered into rest on Thursday, April 21, 2016. She was the daughter of the late John B. Burch and Louise L. Burch. She was preceded in death by her sister Barbara B. Statham, her daughter Barbie H. Ray, and longtime friend Les O'Neal. Mrs. Hawes was born and reared in Thomson, Georgia. A 1945 graduate of Thomson High School, Mrs. Hawes attended and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, now Georgia College and State University. Mrs. Hawes taught school in McDuffie County at Dearing Elementary and later at Thomson High School where biology and government and was twice selected STAR Teacher. In the early 1970's, Mrs. Hawes relocated to Augusta to pursue a career in real estate where she was associated with Trotter Realty and later with Jeff Keller Realty. Mrs. Hawes was a very successful broker and realtor and eventually opened her own company Signal Realty. Mrs. Hawes was a member of the Optimist Club of South Augusta and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomson. Survivors include her daughter Christy (Tommy) Brown and her son Rick (Karen) Hawes. Other survivors are six grandchildren, Emily B. Farmer, Jane B. Miller, Richard Hawes, Bryce Hawes, Michael Ray, and Louisa R. Rickerson and eight great-grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care and support of Dr. Frank Powell, the nurses and staff of the Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation Center and Alliance Hospice.
