Stanphill and Lucile Dunn Stanphill in Red Bay, Alabama, Jerry moved to Thomson in 1979. After graduating from Thomson High School in 1984, Jerry worked as a firefighter with the Richmond County Fire Department. Jerry worked in the patrol division as a patrol officer and investigator until his appointment as Assistant Chief of Police with the City of Thomson Police Department. In 2008, Jerry was hired as the Chief of Public Safety for the McDuffie County Board of Education.
