EVANS, Ga. - Jim Wertz, 81, husband of Julie James Wertz, entered into rest Sunday, November 23, 2014, at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Billy Atkins, and Reverend Ken Garvin officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Wertz, son of the late Charles A. and Barbara O'Neal Wertz, was born in Toledo, Ohio and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a bookkeeper with Augusta Care Pregnancy Center. He taught at Aiken Technical College, worked for Bechtel at SRS, and was a consulting engineer in Columbia. He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church, where he had taught Sunday school and Apologetics classes, and was a member of the Advanced Explorers Sunday School Class. He was a former Mr. Toledo during the 1950's. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Wertz. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Chuck Wertz and his wife, Jane, of Croton, OH, and Bob Wertz, and his wife, Katie, of Powell, OH; his twin daughters, Ann Brannaman, and her husband, Brad, of Libertyville, IL, and Mary Wertz, of Hilliard, OH; his grandchildren, Charlie, Quinn, and Aaron Wertz; twins Nathan and Derek Wertz, and Simon Wertz, Ellie, Ginnie, and Marty Brannaman, Nick Glassburn, and Ben Lanning; and many nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be nephews: Ron James, Jason James, Curt James, Jay James, Jeremy James, John Heise, Brad DeFranco, Beau Davis, Chris Black, and Patrick Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Advanced Explorers Sunday School Class. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Care Pregnancy Center, 1298 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Dear Julie, U& Jim was so nice to us when we met at Fleming Baptist Church in 2007.We thank God for having us too come together. We will miss Jim, he always had a smile when we would see each other. Julie only God knew when his time was up hereon the earth so He came to take him home.The Holy Spirit is here to comfort You. And we give our heart felt condolences to you!!
